Ball Transfer Unit

What Is a Ball Transfer Unit?

A ball transfer unit is a device designed to facilitate the precise and smooth transfer of goods across a surface in any direction. It consists of a large load-bearing ball seated on a bed of smaller balls inside a housing, allowing for omni-directional movement.

There are primarily two types based on their installation and use: surface-mounted and recessed. Surface-mounted units are versatile and easy to install, making them popular for many applications. The recessed type, on the other hand, is embedded into the surface, offering a lower profile and is typically used where a flat surface is necessary.

Ball transfer units are essential in various industrial processes, including in the assembly lines of precision equipment, semiconductor, flat panel display (FPD) manufacturing devices, and in the logistics and material handling sectors. They enable easy handling and positioning of heavy loads, enhancing efficiency and safety in manufacturing and inspection processes. Key components of these units include the housing, the main load-bearing ball, support balls that facilitate movement, and sometimes, a sealing mechanism to prevent contamination.
