Intrusion Detector

What Is an Intrusion Detector?

An intrusion detector is a device specifically designed to detect unauthorized entries into buildings or other facilities.

There are two primary categories of intrusion detectors:

  • Sensors: These detect the presence of an intruder.
  • Alarms: Upon receiving a signal from the sensor, these devices activate alarms, lights, or notification processes.

Used in residences, offices, factories, and more, intrusion detectors are often integrated with security cameras and surveillance systems to enhance overall security measures.

Intrusion detectors use a variety of detection methods, including:

  1. Contact Intrusion Detector: Triggers when an intruder physically contacts the sensor.
  2. Non-contact Intrusion Detector: Employs infrared, microwave, vibration, and other sensors, to detect physical changes like movement or body heat of intruders without needing direct contact.
  3. Composite Intrusion Detector: Combines both contact and non-contact detection methods.

It’s essential to remember that while intrusion detectors are effective, they do not offer complete intrusion prevention and may sometimes trigger false alarms. Therefore, proper installation and reinforcement of security measures are key to optimizing their effectiveness.
