Circular Bench Saw

What Is a Circular Bench Saw?

Circular Bench SawsA circular bench saw is an electric saw consisting of a base on which the material is placed and a blade attached to an arm. The blade, which rotates electrically at high speed, is swung down toward the material. A similar tool is the tabletop slide circular saw.

The circular bench saw has a blade fixed to an arm that swings down on the material, limiting the size of the material that can be cut. On the other hand, the tabletop slide circular saw can slide the blade back and forth, allowing it to cut a wide range of materials regardless of the size of the blade.

Uses of Circular Bench Saws

In addition to being used on woodworking job sites, there are also a number of tabletop circular bench saws available for DIY use at home.

Once you become familiar with its operation, you can cut wood at an angle or slant with ease. This method offers the advantage of easier mass production of wood with consistent cutting compared to a regular circular saw. The clean-cut surface also makes it suitable for processing multiple pieces of wood with precisely the same cut surface.

How to Select Circular Bench Saws

Here are some important points to consider when selecting a circular bench saw:

  • Power Source
There are two types of power sources for circular bench saws: AC-powered and rechargeable.
AC power supplies are characterized by the fact that they never run out of battery power and have a larger and more stable output than rechargeable power supplies. It is advisable to choose an AC-powered type when working for long hours or when powerful cutting is required.
On the other hand, rechargeable circular bench saws are cordless and easy to carry, can be taken to any work site, and are easy to dispose of wood chips.
  • Cutting Capacity
The cutting ability of circular bench saws is measured by both the width and depth of the cut. Choose one that matches the thickness and width of the material you want to cut. The maximum depth of cut should be greater than the thickness of the material.
  • Types of Inclination
There are two types of circular bench saws: double-inclined and left-inclined.
Left-tilting saws are fixed with the blade tilted to the left, whereas double-tilting saws allow the blade to be tilted either to the left or right. The left-tilted circular bench saws can be flipped to accommodate both left and right tilting, but if you prefer not to have to flip the circular bench saws, choose the double-tilted version.
  • Included Features
Some circular bench saws have a laser function that makes it easy to identify the cutting point, a speed maintenance function that makes the cutting surface beautiful, and a brake function that is designed for safety. Choose one with these features as needed.
