Wire Coatings

What Is a Wire Coating?

Wire coating is a general term for metal wire such as stainless steel coated with resin, such as vinyl or nylon.

There are many types of wire coatings, such as wire coatings to prevent wild birds from perching on the wire, PVC wire coatings coated with polyvinyl chloride (usually called PVC), wire coatings made for non-woven fabrics, and zinc wire coatings are also available.

Although they are the same wire coating, the material and coating of each wire differ depending on its intended use.

Uses of Wire Coatings

Wire coatings are used in a wide variety of applications, including curtains, blinds, and hangers for room interiors, anti-theft lock wires and inner brake wires for bicycles, wires to prevent devices from falling, wires to attach power tools, net wires for fishing, agriculture, outdoor sports, etc., and net wires for lifting, lowering, and netting. The range of applications is expanding to include net wires used in fishing, agriculture, outdoor sports, etc., wires used in lifting and lowering equipment, hoisting equipment, elevators, etc., and now even medical wires. The wire materials and coating methods differ depending on the application and environment in which the wire is used.

Principle of Wire Coatings

Let us explain the principle of wire coatings. Simply put, wire coating is, as the name suggests, a wire covered with a coating.

Wire coating is characterized by a wide variety of wire materials and coating methods, each of which is tailored to the application and environment in which it is used. For example, black nylon coating is applied to metal wires to prevent bird pollution, PVC (polyvinyl chloride tube) coating is applied to metal wires widely used in construction and civil engineering, and fluoroplastic coating is applied to stainless steel wires to enhance corrosion resistance.

PVC coated metal wires are widely used in construction and civil engineering, etc. Fluoroplastic coated stainless steel wires with enhanced corrosion resistance are used for nonwoven fabrics. Zinc wire coatings that are electroplated with zinc on brass surfaces to enable high-speed, high-precision surface processing. Synthetic resin wire coatings have high insulation performance and corrosion resistance and can be freely colorful on the exterior surface. Coated chain wires made of stainless steel coated with resin for use as safety measures for playground equipment and for locking two-wheeled vehicles, as well as special wires coated with strong fibers such as aramid and flat belts made of multiple wires laid out flat and coated with resin. Currently, research and development is even underway for medical applications, and the possibilities are endless.
