Magnetic Contact Switch

What Is a Magnetic Contact Switch?

A magnetic contact switch is a type of electrical switch that is activated by a magnetic field. It incorporates an internal magnet that influences the switch’s contacts, enabling the switch to open or close an electrical circuit.

Under normal conditions, the magnetic force inside the switch keeps the contacts attracted to each other, thus completing the circuit. However, when an external magnet is brought near, it can alter the internal magnetic field, causing the contacts to separate and the circuit to open.

Widely used for monitoring the open or closed status of doors, and windows, and as position detection devices in industrial machinery, magnetic contact switches are crucial for security and safety systems. Their ability to operate without direct contact makes them particularly useful for applications where minimal physical interference is desired.
