Test Lead

What Is a Test Lead?

A Test Lead is an essential tool in electrical testing, used for measuring and establishing connections in electrical circuits.

It usually comprises two cables: one ends with a clip, and the other has a sharp pin tip. The clip attaches to the circuit’s terminal, while the pin tip is designed to probe the circuit’s internal components.

Test Leads are crucial for various diagnostic tasks, including checking circuit continuity, detecting short circuits, measuring voltage and current, and evaluating components like resistors and capacitors. Available in diverse types—general-purpose, high-voltage, low-voltage, insulation, and digital test leads—their selection hinges on specific needs such as voltage or current levels, measurement precision, and safety requirements.

When using Test Leads, it’s imperative to verify the target’s voltage or current, use insulated leads for electrical safety, and handle them carefully to prevent damage to terminals or circuit internals.
