What Is a Flowdrill?
Flowdrills are drilling tools made of tungsten carbide. They’re specialized tools designed to perform both drilling and burring operations on steel plates simultaneously. The flowdrill operates by high-speed rotation while being pressed against the material, which enables the simultaneous formation of a hole and a bush.
The advantages of using a flowdrill include the elimination of swarf during operation and the ability to create threads on thin plates or on plates that are unsuitable for tap processing. Metals that are suitable for use with flowdrills include soft steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, provided they have the necessary adaptability.
