What Is a Headlight?
Headlight are located on either side of the front of the car and are used to illuminate the front of the car at night or in tunnels to improve visibility.
They are characterized by the fact that they emit the strongest light of all the lights in the car, including the headlights, which can illuminate in two stages: low beam can illuminate up to about 40 meters in front of the car, and high beam can illuminate up to about 100 meters in front.
By using these two types of headlights, drivers can drive safely even in dark places.
Uses of Headlights
Headlights are used when driving at night or on dark roads, such as tunnels.
Generally, they can be illuminated by turning the tip of the blinker lever on the right side of the steering wheel.
Recently, some models of cars have been introduced that automatically turn on the headlight by sensing the surrounding environment.
It is also possible to turn on high beams temporarily by pulling the blinker lever forward. This also allows for passing to indicate the presence of one’s vehicle.
Principle of Headlights
There are two types of headlights: reflector headlights, which have a structure that holds a mirror inside, and projector Headlights, which have a built-in lens inside. However, projector headlamps are increasingly being adopted because they can be 1/3 the size of reflector headlamps.
Both types emit strong light by diffusing light with reflectors and lenses, rather than emitting light as it is. Also, by changing the angle of light diffusion, it is possible to switch between low and high beams.
By emitting light through reflectors and lenses, even small light sources can diffuse light, which has the advantage of reducing power consumption.
There are also two types of bulbs, HID and LED, and LEDs are increasingly being used. LEDs generate less heat than HIDs but have a longer life. Headlights should be inspected regularly, as a broken headlight is a sign of poor maintenance.
