High Pressure Nailer

What Is a High-Pressure Nailer?

A high-pressure nailer (high-pressure coil nailer) is a tool that uses air power to drive nails, mainly into wood.

There are two types of pneumatic nailers: normal pressure and high pressure. High-pressure nailers are used when the air pressure is in the range of 1.2 to 2.3 MPa. Compared to the atmospheric pressure nailer, the high-pressure nailer is smaller and lighter, yet has more stable power.

In addition to the main unit, a high-pressure nailer requires an air compressor and a hose for connection. Nails are coiled, connected, and loaded into the main unit.

How to Use High-Pressure Nailers

Preparation before nailing requires connecting the “nailer,” “air compressor,” and “hose” to the main unit and loading rolled nails.

When the tip of the nailer is pressed against the object and the trigger is pulled, the nail is fired.

The following are precautions to be taken when using the nailer:

  • Protective eyewear must be worn, as nails may bounce off the nailer if they are not struck properly.
  • To prevent accidental nail firing, the trigger must be locked and the air hose disconnected when moving or not in use.
  • To prevent malfunctions and accidents, the operating air pressure setting must be observed.

How to Select High-Pressure Nailers

The key to selecting high-pressure nailers is to consider the size and type of nail for the application.

The main nail lengths are 1.5″ to 4.75″. No single high-pressure nailer can handle all lengths. A specialized nailer is selected based on the length of the nail to be hammered.

The following is a list of typical nail types used with high-pressure nailers. It is necessary to confirm that the main unit is compatible with the nail type.

  • N Nails: For plywood
  • CN, BN Nails: For 2×4
  • GN Nails: For plasterboard
  • CNZ Nails: CN nails with plating
  • SN Nails: for sheathing board

The following are nail shapes used in high-pressure nailers:

  • Body Shape: smooth, ring, screw
  • Shape of Head: flat head, OH, cup
  • Tip Shapes: diamond point, long diamond point, blunt point, chisel point

There are two ways to connect rolled nails: wire connection and plastic connection. It is necessary to check which one the body is compatible with.
