Luer Fittings

What Is a Luer Fitting?

A luer fitting is a connector made of polypropylene used to connect small tubes.

They are suitable for connecting flexible tubing such as vinyl, silicone, and Tygon.

Luer fittings are not only cost-effective but are also available in a wide variety of materials, shapes, and sizes.

Uses of Luer Fittings

In addition to the standard type, there are rotary-type fittings that reduce tube torsion and large-bore-type fittings that can accommodate up to 8mm inner diameter tubes and have an extended fluid pathway.

Principle of Luer Fittings

Luer fittings have a straightforward structure that facilitates simple tube-to-tube connections and allows their use in disposable applications due to their high cost-effectiveness.

Furthermore, there are more than 100 options available in terms of shape and material, accommodating soft tubing with inner diameters ranging from 1.6 mm to 8.0 mm.

Even for the same shape, multiple colors are available, enabling color-coding for each tube.

Luer fittings exhibit excellent chemical resistance and can withstand autoclave conditions.

Those made entirely of PVDF offer excellent chemical resistance and mechanical strength.

For those made entirely of polypropylene, autoclaving at +121°C is possible, but gamma ray/EOG sterilization is recommended.
