What Is a Stopper Cylinder?
A stopper cylinder is a cylinder that incorporates a stopper function in conveyor lines. Designed with a square shape to withstand lateral loads, it is particularly useful in applications where such loads are applied to the piston rod. Compact and efficient, it facilitates automation and space-saving in conveyor systems like belt conveyors.
Its mounting height is adjustable, maintaining the same overall length, and the vertical stroke amount can be tailored to the stopping requirements of the workpiece. This cylinder is characterized by its low breakaway features and durability.
Uses of Stopper Cylinders
Stopper cylinders are primarily utilized as stopper mechanisms in various conveyor lines, including belt conveyors, roller conveyors, and chain conveyors. They can be equipped with a combination of springs, motors, and solenoids on/off for vertical and horizontal movement of work-pieces, movement detection, and enabling partial passage of pallets.
Electric stopper cylinders are recommended for conveyor lines lacking an air source and can operate without a controller. The drag force value is adjustable via a dial for a soft stopping effect, depending on the application.
Principle of Stopper Cylinders
These cylinders are designed to minimize noise and shock upon stopping. The incorporation of an adjustable shock absorber allows for diverse applications, including single or multiple movements.
Rotating the push direction adjusts the transfer direction by 90° increments. For lightweight pallets, a lock mechanism can be added to prevent them from being pushed back by the shock absorber’s spring force.
By fitting a cancellation cap, the lever can be returned to the pallet passing position, allowing partial passage. Additionally, attaching a lever detection switch enables pallet position detection by switching on when the lever is upright, absorbing the impact of the workpiece.
Rod packing in the cylinder prevents water and dust ingress, ensuring internal integrity. The main body of the cylinder boasts a sturdy construction for an extended lifespan. Furthermore, air and electric systems in stopper cylinders are mutually compatible, enhancing their versatility.
