What Is a Hi-Pot Tester?
A hi-pot tester is an inspection instrument used to measure the dielectric strength of insulation materials in electrical equipment and wires.
This device is employed to verify whether the insulation material has adequate dielectric strength. Hi-pot testers typically apply direct current (DC) or alternating current (AC) voltage to the specimen under test. If the insulation is sufficient, very little current will flow. If current does flow, it suggests that the insulation may be degraded or faulty.
The main advantage is the ability to quickly assess the quality of insulation and ensure the safety of products, reducing the risk of accidents or malfunctions. They are used in electronics, medical devices, aerospace equipment, and other industries.
