What Is a Through Bolt?
A through bolt, also known as a “pass-through bolt” or “penetrating bolt,” is a special type of bolt that extends from one side to the other.
Used to fasten two plates together, a through bolt passes through a hole and is secured with a nut, joining the two objects in line. Since the bolt passes through one plate and is attached to the other, it’s called a “through bolt.”
In automobiles, through bolts are used for wheel assembly, passing through holes in the wheel and tightened with nuts to secure the wheel to the hub. They are also utilized in the assembly of industrial machinery, and equipment, and for joining components during furniture assembly.
