Banana Plug

What Is a Banana Plug?

A banana plug is a type of electrical connector commonly used to link various electronic devices and equipment.

Notable for its ease of use and effective electrical conduction, a banana plug achieves low-resistance contact thanks to its wide contact area. Additionally, it often incorporates a spring mechanism in its design, enhancing its resistance to accidental disconnections.

Banana plugs find widespread use in applications such as connecting speaker cables, attaching measuring instruments, and setting up experimental apparatus. They come in two primary variations: single-pole and double-pole. Single-pole banana plugs, connecting to a single terminal, are ideal for speaker cables and measuring instruments. Conversely, double-pole banana plugs, which connect to both terminals, are more suited for experimental configurations. Selection of the appropriate plug type should consider the specific voltage and current requirements of the application.
