What Is a Paddle Flow Meter?
A paddle flow meter is a device used to measure flow rate by detecting the rotation of an impeller.
This measurement is conducted by counting pulses, which are generated by a magnet located either on the impeller’s blades or its rotating axis.Paddle flow meters are cost-effective due to their straightforward mechanism. They are capable of handling large flow rates even in compact designs, as their measurement principle relies on rotational counts.
However, these meters have limitations. Since the impeller is physically immersed in the fluid, paddle flow meters are not ideal for fluids that are prone to clogging or contain significant debris and crystals. Additionally, low flow rates might result in pressure loss. Regular maintenance is also required due to wear on the impeller caused by continuous rotation.
