What Is a Square Pipe?
A square pipe, characterized by its square or rectangular cross-sections, is a versatile component used in various applications. They are typically made from materials such as stainless steel and aluminum, and their specific uses depend on size and manufacturing methods.
The sizes of square pipes are broadly classified into three categories:
- Small diameter: These are often used in furniture manufacturing.
- Medium diameter: Suitable for machinery structures.
- Large diameter (columns): Primarily used in construction projects.
For small and medium-diameter pipes, which are generally categorized as general structural square steel pipes, the manufacturing process involves deforming round pipes or bending steel plates. Small-diameter pipes may use materials like cold-rolled coils (STKMR), while medium-diameter pipes often use hot-rolled coils (STKR).
Large-diameter pipes include two main types:
- Cold-formed roll-formed square steel pipe (BCR): In this method, the coil is stretched and shaped.
- Press-formed square steel pipe (BCP): This involves welding C-shaped steel plates at overlapping sections, making them suitable for columns in steel-frame structures.
Each type of square pipe offers unique characteristics and benefits, making them integral in various industrial and construction applications.
