What Is a Gravel Mat?
A gravel mat, developed in the Netherlands, is a ground pavement material made of polypropylene. Designed in a hexagonal (honeycomb) shape, when filled with gravel, it creates a stable and easily walkable gravel surface, providing an effective paving solution.
Uses of Gravel Mats
Gravel mats are widely used in exterior building designs and city sidewalks. They are particularly effective for creating stable, water-shedding gravel paths in gardens, gravel approaches, and rooftop gardens. These mats offer the advantage of maintaining a solid surface, eliminating issues like waders or instability commonly associated with gravel areas.
The honeycomb structure of gravel mats is robust, supporting approximately 100 tons per square meter without gravel and up to 250 tons per square meter when filled with gravel. This remarkable load-bearing capacity makes them suitable for parking lots and areas frequented by heavy vehicles.
