As an intermediate, hexylamine finds application in surfactants, agricultural chemicals, corrosion inhibitors, rubber, emulsifiers, and pharmaceuticals. Additionally, it serves as a flavoring agent. Hexylamine is also integral to azo dye production, undergoing diazotization coupling reactions.

It has a melting point of -19°C, a flash point of 27°C, a boiling point of 130°C, and a spontaneous combustion temperature of 270°C. Its solubility in water is 1.2 g/100 mL, and it is also soluble in ether and ethanol.
