Flanged Heaters

What Is a Flanged Heater?

A flanged heater is a heater used to heat or keep warm a large volume of liquid. Since the heater is installed directly in the tank of the liquid to be heated, it has high heating efficiency and is suitable for heating large volumes of liquid.

Uses of Flanged Heaters

Flanged heaters are used in washing machines, machine oil warming, and food oil heating. They heat oil to a set temperature and maintain that temperature when frying food in food factories.

Depending on the heating target, corrosion of the heater part may be a concern. The material of the heater part is SUS or so-called stainless steel, but when heating seawater or hot spring water, the stainless steel may corrode depending on the quality of the spring water. In such cases, flanged heaters made of titanium or other corrosion-resistant materials are selected instead of stainless steel flanged heaters.

Principle of Flanged Heaters

Flanged heaters are generally installed from the side of the container. Since they are installed from the side, there is a risk of leakage, which can lead to accidents such as electric shock if they are not installed securely to prevent leakage.

The temperature of the liquid heated by the flanged heater is measured by a thermocouple or other thermometer device and read by the temperature controller. When a set temperature is specified in the temperature controller, the controller reads the temperature of the liquid and adjusts the output of the heater to maintain a constant temperature in the container.

A thermostat may be installed as a safety device to stop the output of the heater by opening the thermostat if the temperature inside the container rises abnormally because the container runs out of liquid and becomes empty.
