Schottky Diode

What Is a Schottky Diode?

A Schottky diode is a semiconductor device that exploits the Schottky barrier, formed at the junction between a metal and a semiconductor, for rectification purposes.

Characterized by their low-forward voltage drop (Vf) and high-speed switching capabilities, Schottky diodes are extensively utilized in high-frequency circuits and low-loss rectification circuits. The operational principle hinges on the energy barrier established at the metal-semiconductor interface. Under forward bias, current flows across the barrier, whereas reverse bias impedes current conduction due to the barrier.

Applications of Schottky diodes span various fields, including high-frequency circuits, low-loss rectification circuits, overcurrent protection systems, and high-efficiency power conversion circuits. Notably, their demand has surged in emerging technologies like 5G communication networks, electric vehicles, and solar power generation systems.
