Piston Cylinder

What Is a Piston Cylinder?

A piston cylinder is a key component in engines and hydraulic systems.

In these systems, piston cylinders play a crucial role in generating or controlling power. Each piston cylinder assembly typically includes a cylindrical housing (the cylinder) and a piston that slides reciprocally within it. As the piston moves up and down or back and forth in the cylinder, it generates pressure or force or controls other mechanical elements through its movement.

Within an engine, the piston cylinder functions as the combustion chamber. Here, a fuel-air mixture ignites, driving the piston’s movement. This movement, in turn, rotates the crankshaft, thus converting the piston’s reciprocating motion into rotational power for the engine.
