Positive Displacement Pump

What Is a Positive Displacement Pump?

A positive displacement pump is a pump designed for transferring liquids.

This type of pump functions by altering the volume of its chamber, which enables the intake and discharge of liquid. There are two main types: reciprocating and rotary. Reciprocating pumps change the chamber volume through piston movements, while rotary pumps use rotor movements. Positive displacement pumps are used in diverse environments, such as industrial settings for water or oil pumping, residential applications like water supply and hot water systems, and automotive systems, including engine and brake mechanisms.

The pump operates by varying the chamber’s volume, drawing in liquid when the volume decreases and discharging it as the volume increases. This feature ensures high precision and a consistent flow rate, the ability to handle high pressure, and ease of maintenance due to its straightforward design.
