Ultrasonic Proximity Sensor

What Is an Ultrasonic Proximity Sensor?

An ultrasonic proximity sensor is a device used for non-contact measurement of the distance to an object.

It operates by emitting and utilizing the reflection time of ultrasonic waves. Ultrasonic waves are emitted and reflected based on the distance to the object, and the distance is measured from the time difference. It is characterized by non-contact measurement, high accuracy, and the ability to adapt to different shapes and materials.

There are two types: a single ultrasonic sensor and an array-type ultrasonic sensor. Each type allows for measurement in a specific direction and simultaneous multi-directional measurement, respectively.

Ultrasonic proximity sensors find applications in various fields such as parking assistance in automobiles, obstacle avoidance in robots, and automatic opening/closing of doors. When using these sensors, it is important to note that the material of the surrounding surfaces and the measured object can affect measurement accuracy, requiring appropriate settings for the environment and conditions.
