Round Head Rivet

What Is a Round Head Rivet?

A round head rivet is a component consisting of a hemispherical head and a straight body without a groove like a screw.

Rivets are used to join two parts. By crimping with a special tool, the head and the opposite end are deformed and joined together. The joint is therefore usually semi-permanent. This is a simple yet powerful joining method that has been used for a long time.

Uses of Round Head Rivets

Round head rivets are used to connect and strongly fasten parts together. Unlike screws, rivets crush parts together to secure them. They are not intended to be removed after joining, so they are used for parts that do not require removal.

Because of its high strength and ease of use, the round rivet has several applications, from small, common items such as school bags and binders to aircraft exterior panels and automobile interiors.

Principle of Round Head Rivets

Round head rivets are secured by drilling a hole into a material, inserting the rivet into the hole, and then crushing the rivet.

Unlike screws, round rivets do not need to be tightened because they are strongly joined by crushing the endpoints of the inserted body and causing plastic deformation.

The body of the rivet remains in the hole while the shaft pushes the body apart to deform the rivet. It is important to adjust the length of the body of the rivet appropriately for the purpose.
