What Are LED Amber Lights for Semiconductors?

LED amber lights for semiconductors are used for lighting in semiconductor factories where photosensitive materials are handled. They are often referred to as amber lamps due to their characteristic amber lighting.

Traditionally, amber fluorescent lamps were used, but now LED lamps that cut off wavelengths below 500 nm, including ultraviolet rays, have become the standard.

During the semiconductor manufacturing process, circuits are created on silicon wafers by UV irradiation in a process known as “exposure.” Ordinary lighting alters the silicon wafer when exposed to ultraviolet light, necessitating the use of lamps that filter out ultraviolet rays.

Uses of LED Amber Lights for Semiconductors

These LED amber lights are primarily used as safety lighting in semiconductor and IC factories, as well as other places handling photosensitive materials.

Clean rooms in machinery and electronics industries are pressurized to keep out dust. Lighting fixtures in these rooms are designed to maintain room airtightness, using bushings at power supply insertion areas and bolts for installation.

In clean rooms, where filtered clean air flows in a specific direction, lighting fixtures are streamlined to not disrupt air conditioning airflow.

UV-cut lamps have broad applications, including in stores, plant factories, food factories, educational facilities, amusement centers, and vehicles.

Principle of LED Amber Lights for Semiconductors

These lights employ either a filter method or a selective-wavelength emission method.

The filter method involves covering fluorescent tubes or LEDs with an amber pigment layer, heat-shrinkable resin film, or special film to filter out light with wavelengths below 500 nm.

The selective wavelength emission method, which is more energy-efficient and improves user satisfaction, emits only necessary wavelengths by adding wavelengths together. This method reduces energy costs compared to conventional LEDs that use filters.

Features of LED Amber Lights for Semiconductors

LED amber lights for semiconductors offer several unique features:

  • They can reduce power consumption by up to 70% compared to equivalent fluorescent lamps.
  • With a lifespan of over 40,000 hours, they require less maintenance and are more environmentally friendly as they do not contain mercury.
  • Their brightness improves the work environment, increasing dust and foreign matter detection in factories.

Lamps with glass tubes have a resin coating to prevent scattering of glass fragments if broken. Resin-container LEDs are lighter and safer, scattering fewer fragments upon breakage.

Types of LED Amber Lights for Semiconductors

Amber fluorescent tube lights uses an amber pigment layer and UV radiation cutoff film. LED lamps have been increasingly replacing these traditional lamps.

LED amber lights for semiconductors usually emit amber light, but some models improve the color quality of the lighting, reducing the discomfort caused by color gaps when entering and exiting rooms. These lamps have high color rendering properties and a color temperature around 3,000~5,000 K.

Materials like polycarbonate and aluminum are used for LED containers, enhancing durability and ease of maintenance. Special applications include explosion-proof LED fixtures and lights specifically designed for factories using highly sensitive photosensitive materials. Orange type LED lights, cutting off wavelengths below 530 nm, are also available for strict UV light cutoff requirements.
