Pneumatic Air Chisel

What Is a Pneumatic Air Chisel?

Compressors and regulators have a structure of sending high-pressure air into the pistol section at the end of the hose that connects them. The delivered air causes the cylinder at the end of the air gun to move back and forth powerfully, vibrating the tip (chisel), which is used to peel, open, and cut objects. The pressure can be easily adjusted, allowing operation with just the right amount of force for the intended work.

Commonly referred to as pneumatic tools, they are smaller, lighter, and easier to handle than electric tools while maintaining the same level of power. They are also known as “auto chisel,” “air hammer,” and “air chipper (pen type).”

Uses of Pneumatic Air Chisels

Air chisels are used in serious situations such as “house construction” and “construction sites” by utilizing the powerful and automatic piston movement of the chisel. Typical applications include crushing concrete, drilling holes, and cutting steel plates.

It is also used for removing burrs generated during welding, especially in arc welding, where metal particles, known as spatter, are produced, creating unevenness near the weld. Pneumatic air chisels are suitable for removing such localized lumps.

Furthermore, it is also powerful for sheet metal paint removal and spot weld stripping of automobiles.

How to Choose Pneumatic Air Chisels

  • Body
For detailed work, a model with a large bpm, which indicates the number of blows, is appropriate. Conversely, when destroying or stripping materials, a model with a small blow rate should be selected.
When performing dynamic and efficient work, usage of an air chisel with an air usage rate of about 0.3 m3/min., is desirable. On the other hand, since the main unit weighs 3.75 lb, a lightweight type should be selected for long hours of work or for use by women or the elderly who lack arm strength.
  • Chisel Section
Various types of chisel (tip) sections are available, and they are used according to the specific needs of the work. Various lineups are available, including point chisels for breaking and demolishing concrete mortar, flat chisels for removing tiles and paint, sheet metal chisels for cutting thin steel plates, and rivet chisels for cutting rivets, small bolts, and screws.
  • Compressor
The compressor capacity must match the air consumption of the pneumatic air chisels. If indoor use is intended, a quiet model is preferable. Also, if the work area is to be changed or if clean-up is to be done more frequently, a compact and lightweight model should be selected.
