What Is an Air Polisher?
An air polisher is a tool connected to an air compressor and powered by compressed air to rotate a buff tip to polish materials such as metal and wood.
In addition to polishing, it can also be used for removing paint, rust, and putty. The difference between air polishers and similar polishing tools such as air sanders is that air sanders are mainly used for coarse polishing. In contrast, air polishers can perform fine polishing and have a relatively low rotation and high torque.
Uses of Air Polishers
The main use of air polishers is for polishing materials such as wood.
Since air polishers are powered by compressed air from an air compressor, they have strong rotational force and can be used to polish metal, remove rust, and peel paint.
Furthermore, by changing the buff to which the polisher is attached, it is possible to perform finishing work such as polishing and waxing. Some products have a dust suction system that can suck up dust scattered during polishing, making it possible to work in an environmentally friendly manner.
How to Choose Air Polishers
When selecting air polishers, the following points should be considered:
- Rotation Method
There are three types of air polishers: single-action, gear-action, and double-action. In a single-action type, the buff rotates only in one direction and has the highest polishing power. In gear-action and double-action types, the buff moves in an irregular manner, resulting in polishing power inferior to that of single-action. However, the advantage is that the material is not easily scratched. - Shape
There are various types of air polisher shapes, such as “handy,” “angled,” and “pistol” types. The handheld type is the most common shape and is used with either two hands or one hand. Some angle-type models have side handles, while pistol-type models are often used for small models that are easy to maneuver. - Uses of Air Polishers
Air polishers can be used for “polishing,” “shining,” and “waxing,” depending on the type of buff to which they are attached. Therefore, selecting the buff that best suits the purpose is necessary.
