They are effective in delivering cool air directly to specific areas or individuals, helping to prevent heat stroke during hot conditions. Principle of Portable Air Conditioners
Portable air conditioners work similarly to regular air conditioners, with a compressor and heat exchanger. They draw in air, cool it internally, and discharge cooled air while simultaneously expelling hot air generated during the cooling process. Some models come equipped with a special duct for external hot air discharge. Accumulated water in the unit’s tank needs regular manual emptying, although some models feature a mechanism to evaporate this water and release it with the exhaust air.
How to Choose a Portable Air Conditioner
1. Cooling Capacity
Cooling capacity is measured in kilowatts (kW). Higher values indicate greater power and cooling efficiency. For commercial use, a capacity of 2.5kW is recommended, while for home use, a capacity of 2.0kW or less is advised.
2. Power Source
Choose between 100V and 200V power sources. For home use or smaller units, the 100V type with a standard plug is recommended for its lower power consumption and higher efficiency.
3. Number of Air Outlets
While residential units typically have one vent, commercial portable air conditioners may have multiple vents. More vents allow for broader usage but may reduce the amount of air blown per outlet.
4. Environment of Use
Consider the usage environment as portable air conditioners’ effectiveness can vary based on location. Larger models are available for crowded areas like highway service areas and outdoor events.
