Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Cabinets

What Is an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Cabinet?

Automated external defibrillator (AED) cabinets are equipment for storing automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and are installed in schools, offices, public institutions, etc. They have been improved to protect AEDs from moisture and shock to prevent them from malfunctioning and to make them ready for use when primary life-saving is needed.

It is not just a storage case, but has the following roles: 1) to protect the AED, which is a precision instrument; 2) to manage the AED in place; 3) to notify the location of the AED with a prominent design; and 4) to sound an alarm when it is opened to alert others to an abnormality. Depending on the model, it can also be used to store emergency tools in the event of a disaster.

Uses of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Cabinets

An AED is a medical device used to defibrillate the heart automatically (i.e., stop the heart from shaking and restore the normal heartbeat) in primary life-saving procedures. AEDs are installed in schools, corporate offices, train stations, airports, supermarkets, and many other locations.

When installing AEDs, it is important to consider the storage environment. AEDs are precision medical devices, and if they are not stored properly, they may not work properly when needed. Also, if the AED is placed in an obscure location, it will not be easy to find. By storing the AED in an automated external defibrillator (AED) cabinet, the AED can be protected and managed in a fixed location, making its location easy to find.

Features of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Cabinets

There are three main types of automated external defibrillator (AED) cabinets. Selection is based on the size of the installation site and whether the wall can be processed.

  • Wall-Mounted Type

The enclosure-shaped box is fitted into a recess in the wall and secured in place. Since it is embedded in the wall, it is sturdy against vibration and does not protrude.

  • Wall-Mounted

Fixed to a flat part of the wall with bolts. Can be mounted regardless of the shape of the wall.

  • Stand Type

This type stands upright on the floor or ground and can be installed in places where wall mounting is not possible. Some products are vertically shaped and have a storage space for emergency supplies on the underside.

The advantages of storing AEDs in automated external defibrillator (AED) cabinets are described below.

  • The automated external defibrillator (AED) cabinet itself is primarily made of metal (galvanized) and is impact-resistant and waterproof. This prevents the AED from being subjected to impact or water and prevents it from malfunctioning.
  • By mounting the storage box on the wall, the AED can be managed in place and can be quickly retrieved when needed.
  • The prominent red and orange design and large “AED” logo make it easy to locate the AED even when you are new to the area.
  • When the door of the storage box is opened, an alarm sounds, alerting the surrounding area to the abnormality. This helps attract as many rescuers as possible.
