What Is Cold Forming?
Cold forming is a metalworking process performed at room temperature or relatively low temperatures, avoiding the high temperatures traditionally used in metal shaping.
This method allows metals to be shaped while preserving their original properties. Key techniques in cold forming include extrusion, bending, and stretching, all of which apply high-pressure forces to achieve the desired shape with a high-quality finish. Cold forming also enhances the material’s strength and durability due to minimal changes in the metal’s crystalline structure.
Benefits of cold forming include improved material strength, enhanced surface finishes, and consistent dimensional accuracy. However, it can be less effective for shaping soft metals and requires significant pressure, which may be considered a limitation.
