Angle Head

What Is an Angle Head?

An angle head is an attachment used on machine tools to enable machining from a vertical direction.

The rotational force of the main spindle is transmitted to the cutting tool, and its structure involves the orthogonal arrangement of the rotational axes of the main spindle and the cutting tool. The operating principle involves the incorporation of bearings and bushings internally, through which the rotational force of the main spindle is transmitted to the cutting tool. Primarily used in milling machines and lathes, it is employed in milling machines for the machining of end surfaces and side surfaces, and in lathes for cutting operations on end surfaces and side surfaces, as well as keyway machining.

There are two types of angle heads: threaded and clamping. While threaded types are cost-effective, they pose a risk of detachment or breakage. On the other hand, clamping types have a lower risk of detachment or breakage, allowing for high-precision machining. When using, it is important to ensure secure fixation of the cutting tool, and when aiming for high-precision machining, attention should be given to the use of clamping types.
