What Is a Steady Rest?
A steady rest is a component of machining equipment designed to prevent displacement or deviation caused by vibration.
Used in high-precision work or tasks with heavy loads, steady rests help achieve smooth finishes and reduce load on components. While fixed steady rests offer high precision and load reduction, traveling steady rests attached to the cross slide are used for longer machining operations, such as outer diameter machining, offering less precision and load reduction compared to fixed types.
