Thermocouple Wires

What Is a Thermocouple Wire?

A thermocouple wire, commonly referred to as a thermocouple, is a temperature sensor that generates voltage from a temperature difference by connecting two different metals. It is widely used in manufacturing processes, quality control, maintenance, research and development, and the medical equipment sector.

The thermoelectric effect occurs at the junction where these two metals meet, producing voltage. This voltage, conducted through the wires, is used to measure temperature. Thermocouples come in two primary types: cold junction and hot junction. Additionally, there are various types, like K-type, J-type, and T-type, each suitable for different temperature ranges.

Thermocouple wires are notable for their ability to measure a wide range of temperatures with high precision and their compact, lightweight design. Selecting the appropriate type of thermocouple, protecting the junction and conductors, and ensuring correct connections are crucial for accurate temperature measurement.
