What Is Isopropyl Nitrite?
Isopropyl nitrite, also referred to as 2-(nitrosooxy)propane, is a pale-yellow liquid at room temperature. It is almost insoluble in water but is soluble in ethanol and diethyl ether. In case of ignition, it is advisable to use a powder fire extinguishing agent, foam, carbon dioxide, or sand, rather than water. Additionally, as it is a toxic liquid, it must be handled with care.
Uses of Isopropyl Nitrite
Notable for its ease of synthesis, isopropyl nitrite is primarily used in the production of jet fuel and as an intermediate in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
