A seam welding machine is a specialized welding machine that uses a continuous welding process with rotating electrodes. This machine is known for its efficiency and precision in welding applications.
The process involves placing welding material between two rotating disc electrodes. As the electrodes rotate, an electrical current is applied, generating heat through electrical resistance. This resistance heat is then used to weld metals together. Seam welding machines are often mechanically controlled, facilitating both automatic and semi-automatic welding operations. This reduces the reliance on skilled labor, thereby lowering labor costs.
These machines are particularly effective in achieving high airtightness in welds, making them ideal for constructing tanks and precision machinery. While suitable for both flat plates and curved surfaces such as pipes, one limitation in welding flat plates is the potential for thermal distortion, as clamping fixtures are difficult to attach in this context.
