Magnetic Linear Encoder

What Is a Magnetic Linear Encoder?

A magnetic linear encoder is a device that measures linear displacement based on changes in the magnetic field.

A magnetic encoder is a machine that detects movement or angular displacement by measuring changes in the magnetic field using magnetic sensors and outputs this information as electrical signals. Specifically designed to measure linear displacement, it is referred to as a linear encoder among magnetic encoders.

It consists of a head with sensors that moves over a magnetic strip made of thin magnetic material. The measurement is performed by attaching the magnetic strip to an object. The magnetic strip has alternating magnetized and demagnetized regions, and the head reads the resulting changes in the magnetic field, converting them into linear displacement. Due to its high precision and non-contact nature, it finds applications in the manufacturing of precision equipment such as semiconductors.
