What Is an Impact Mill?
An impact mill is an electric machine used for pulverizing and crushing substances.
Many impact mills are equipped with rapidly rotating pins or hammers internally. By putting material into the mill and operating it, the blades or hammers perform cutting and crushing on the target substance. There are various types of impact mills, such as hammer mills, pin mills, and jet mills, each differing in the fineness of grinding and the main types of target materials.
Jet mills use high-pressure gas injection without a rotor to collide particles of the target substance for grinding. Because gas is employed, temperature control is more manageable compared to other types, making it possible to process heat-sensitive materials. Impact mills find applications in various industrial settings, including grinding food items like grains, manufacturing granular pharmaceuticals, and crushing plastics and minerals.
