What Is an Oil Lift Drain?
An oil lift drain is a specialized oil receptacle used for vehicle engine oil changes.
It features an adjustable height tray that can be aligned with the elevation of the vehicle.During an engine oil change, oil is typically drained from the oil pan situated beneath the vehicle. An oil drain with a funnel-like tray is used to catch the draining oil, preventing spillage and directing it into a container. The unique aspect of an oil lift drain is its ability to adjust the tray’s height to match the oil pan’s installation height, ensuring optimal positioning for efficient oil collection.
It is important to note that oil removal from the oil pan under the vehicle is commonly known as “draining from below.” In contrast, extracting oil through the oil filler port using specialized equipment is termed “draining from above.” An oil lift drain is specifically designed for the “draining from below” method.
