What Is a Socket Wrench Set?
A socket wrench set is a tool that contains a combination of sockets for socket wrenches of various sizes and types.

- Size of the Insertion Angle
The insertion angle is the size of the square hole where the socket is inserted into the wrench handle. There are three sizes: 1/2″ (12.7mm), 3/8″ (9.5mm), and 1/4″ (6.35mm). Select the combination of sockets that match the insert angle size of the wrench handle. - Types of Socket Groove
Socket groove shapes are generally 6-square, 12-square, etc., neither of which is necessarily better than the other.
The 6-socket has a longer flat surface that is less likely to damage the bolt or nut, while the 12-socket is easier to insert into the nut, making work more efficient. Select the combination of socket grooves that best suits your application. - Phillips-Head and Hexagonal Sizes
As with regular Phillips-head screwdrivers, hexagonal wrenches, etc., there are several sizes, and the appropriate combination should be selected for the application. - Socket Length
When the socket is too short to reach the bolt and nut, use a long socket. Select the combination that best suits the application. - Material and Surface Treatment
Sockets are generally made of chrome molybdenum steel SCM435, which is plated to improve corrosion and wear resistance. For applications where the tightening force is not so high, plated sockets are selected, and for applications where the tightening force is high, conversion-treated sockets are selected.
