Cable Wire Connector

What Is a Cable Wire Connector?

A cable wire connector is an essential component in electrical engineering, primarily used to electrically connect circuits on two printed circuit boards (PCBs). These connectors are commonly referred to as board-to-board connectors.

Mounted directly on the PCBs, cable wire connectors often feature male connectors on one PCB and female connectors on the cables, enabling a secure electrical connection between two boards.

Uses of Cable Wire Connectors

Cable wire connectors come in various sizes and pin configurations, tailored to the specific requirements of signal cables and the current capacity needed. They play a crucial role in ensuring stable electrical and physical connections in numerous devices that use PCBs, ranging from consumer to commercial equipment.

With the trend towards more sophisticated and compact devices, there’s an increasing demand for smaller, thinner, and lighter electrical components, including nylon cable wire connectors.

Principle of Cable Wire Connectors

Cable wire connectors facilitate the division of a single device’s functionality across multiple PCBs. This division allows for more efficient use of space within the device and often results in cost savings.

By segmenting a device’s functions across different boards, such as basic functions on board A, and additional functions on boards B and C, manufacturers can create multiple product variations. For instance, using only board A for basic functionality, or combining boards A+B or A+C for additional features, allows for a diverse range of products with varying functions.
