Spandrel Panel

What Is a Spandrel Panel?

A spandrel panel is a type of metal veneer engineered to conceal fastening screws. It is available in various materials, including aluminum, painted steel, and color-coated steel based on galvalume and zinc plating. These panels, known as aluminum spandrel, steel spandrel, and colored spandrel, are durable and resistant to external factors like temperature fluctuations, sunlight, wind, and rain. Available in diverse colors, they require minimal maintenance due to the durability of the painted surface. A ‘joint board application’ refers to covering joints with a board at the bottom of the joint.

Additionally, spandrel panels are used for fireproofing in buildings, where a fire-resistant spandrel panel is a regulatory requirement.

Uses of Spandrel Panels

Spandrel panels are primarily utilized as ceiling materials in various structures, including train stations, airports, apartment buildings, and commercial facilities. They come in both interior and exterior specifications, with their structure and functionality varying based on the application. Interior spandrel panels may include added features like thermal insulation and dew condensation prevention, while exterior panels emphasize weather resistance, commonly used in public facility entrances and covered bus stops.
