Water Jet Cutting

What Is Water Jet Cutting?

Water jet cutting is a machining process that employs ultra-high-pressure water streams to cut through materials.

This method enables precise cutting without causing thermal distortion or hardening of the material. The system primarily comprises a high-pressure pump, a nozzle, and a cutting table. The pump pressurizes water to extremely high levels, which is then directed at the material through the nozzle, cutting it with the water jet’s force.

Water jet cutting is versatile, capable of slicing through a wide range of materials such as metals, plastics, rubber, wood, and glass. It encompasses two techniques: pure water cutting, which relies solely on the jet’s speed and pressure, and abrasive jet cutting, which enhances cutting by mixing water with abrasive particles to erode the material more effectively.
